VLAN
A VLAN (virtual LAN) is a network that uses switches instead of routers to manage segments (subdivisions of a network). Using switches, a LAN can be split into multiple VLANs, or multiple LANs can be merged into a single VLAN.  One advantage of a VLAN is that all configuration is handled using software rather than both hardware and software.
